Despite being severely underrepresented in the media, young women of color continue finding new ways of sharing their diverse stories, creations, and ideas online. Armed with an abundance of fresh talent, raw entrepreneurial spirit, and a robust community of fellow disruptors only an email away, these new media pioneers are forgoing the road less traveled to clear a new path for the multidimensional images and content they would like to see in the world. Platforms like Wordpress, Blogspot, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and YouTube serve as fertile breeding grounds, spawning unprecedented new opportunities for this historically untapped demographic.
“We Got Our Own” will focus on how the speakers determine production schedules and workflow, how they recruit and manage team members, how they create efficient business plans, how they generate multiple revenue sources and more. In this Internet Week panel, vanguards of today’s brave, new media world will explore the digital innovations made by and for young women of color and collaborate with the audience on finding effective and disruptive ways to capitalize this movement and become key power players in the media industry.
